A board that watches the position

GoChess started from a simple complaint: learning chess on a screen teaches you to play on a screen. So we put the sensors under the board instead. Every square reads the piece standing on it and every square can light up, which means the board can show you legal moves, warn you about a threat, replay a famous game or walk a beginner through an opening without anybody touching a phone.

Mini, Harry Potter or Pro

Connect it to the free app and the board becomes a tutor with endless patience. Play the adaptive engine at a level that fits you today, review the game move by move afterwards, or go online and compete with players around the world while your own pieces move under your hand. Puzzles light up on the board itself. The analysis is specific — not "you played badly", but which move turned the position and what the alternative was.

Playing a human and playing the engine

There are three boards in the range. The GoChess Mini is the compact set for a desk or a small table and the easiest to live with day to day. The Harry Potter Smart Chess Set brings the licensed wizarding pieces to the same connected experience and is the one that gets children to sit down. The Pro board is the largest and the most serious, built for people who want the full tournament feel with the lights and the coaching still there when they want them.

What arrives in the box

A smart board earns its place because it keeps two people at a table. You still set up the pieces, you still reach across and take a knight, you still hear the small knock of wood on wood. The technology only steps in when somebody is stuck, and then it steps back out again.
